External Aerials:

With all Wireless equipment, the operating range is measured in 'line of sight', this is the only true way a manufacturer can state the range as they have no control about what type and how many obstructions may be located in the way when the device is being used. Obviously the more dense the obstruction or obstructions (stone, concrete, steel) and the quantity of obstructions will effect (reduce) the operating range.

With Wireless Intercoms (especially on gate applications) the first major obstruction that the signal has to pass through is the wall that the caller station is mounted onto, this may be a thick stone gate pillar with a steel internal post which can significantly reduce the Wireless operating range, in these examples it would be far more beneficial to have the Aerial mounted on the back of the Post whilst the Caller Station is mounted on the front.

With the UltraCom Wireless Video Intercom, we can offer it in three formats:

  1. Internal Aerial (ideal for typical front door of a house).
  2. External Flat Aerial (designed for fitting to the inside of a Porch, Front Door of a large home or business, some Gate installations).
  3. External Wall Mounted Aerial (designed to be mounted onto the rear of a Gate Post). 

We have found during testing that using one of these Aerials on the Video Intercoms definitely increases the operating range between the caller stations and receivers (portable handsets).

In summary we would recommend choosing the standard UltraCom Video Intercom with Internal Aerial for any domestic door applications (standard size homes & apartments), and choose one of the two models with Aerials for Gates, Large Homes & Office applications.

You can power the Intercom using a Plug in Transformer or a 12v supply directly from a Gate or Door Control Board.
