These popular Wireless 80 metre Driveway Alarm Systems comprises of a battery powered External PIR and a 4 - Channel Wireless Receiver (ideal early warning domestic alert system), the 4 channel receiver can be set to chime, beep, flashing LED's or even full alarm mode (100 decibel alarm siren) when activated.

The battery powered External XL Wireless PIR's (passive infra-red detectors) will detect a person from up to 13 metres away and transmit a wireless signal back to the XL Wireless Alarm Control Panel up to 80 metres away, the PIR sits inside a protective rubber hood that reduces the beam pattern (adjustable) to avoid false alarms from small ground animals.

The PIR's are supplied with a simple adjustable wall bracket and are best installed about 1.5 metres high aiming horizonally across the ground, you can use up to 16 PIR's with a single XL Wireless Driveway Alarm & XL Wireless Home Security & Safety Systems, they can be used to create a full alarm condition or simple audible alert (depending on the chosen mode of operation). The PIR's are powered by a single 9v PP3 Battery (which will last for approximately one year in most applications) and have a built in low battery warning system.

The unique 4 - Channel XL Wireless Receiver is powered by a plug in transformer with the option of fitting 4 x AAA back up batteries (not supplied), the Receiver's 4 channels and can be used in multiple ways (depending on how it has been initially programmed and what mode it has been put into on any given day).

The XL Receiver can work with up to 16 Alarm Detectors (4 on each channel), 4 Remote Controls (1 on each channel), 1 Dialer & multiple Sirens with various modes of operation available, please see the options listed below:
Channel 1: Alert Mode (chime or beep), Full Home Alarm Mode (excluding PIR's) Full Away Alarm Mode (all detectors).
Channel 2: Alert Mode (chime or beep), Full Home Alarm Mode (excluding PIR's) Full Away Alarm Mode (all detectors).
Channel 3: Alert Mode (chime or beep), Full Home Alarm Mode (excluding PIR's) Full Away Alarm Mode (all detectors).
Channel 4: Alert Mode Only (beep alert only).

This alarm can be used in so many different ways to suit different applications, listed below are just a few examples of operation, but there are many more, if in doubt please contact us for advice:
1) An external PIR set to Channel 4 on Alert, and a further PIR and Door Contact set to full alarm for periods during the night or when you are not at home.
2) 3 x external PIR's simple set to chime or beep (working as a Wireless Driveway Alert).
3) A PIR set to Alert only, a water sensor set to full alarm.
4) A Door Contact set to Alert during the day, but full alarm and dialer during the night.
5) A PIR, Water Detector & Temperature Monitor set to different channels but all on simple Alert Mode.
6) An external PIR set to Alert, a PIR inside a garage and shed set to full Alarm, a door contact on the back door of the house set to full Alarm.

Mounting the PIR Sensor:
The key to successful operation of any PIR sensor is choosing the correct location, this is even more important when using them outside. A sensor mounted in a unsuitable location has the potential to cause false triggers and reduce performance. The best advice is listed below:
1) Mount the PIR between 1 - 1.5 metres high onto a wall or fence post (if possible).
2) Aim the PIR horizonally across the ground.
3) If you want to increase the detection area open up the hole in the front of the protective hood in a letter box shape.
4) Avoid locations where a low sum might suddenly point directly into the PIR.
5) If possible aim the PIR at a wall or fixed barrier, (you dont want it picking up neighbours or animals in the next property).
6) If it is not possible to aim the PIR at a wall and it is close to the next property, then aim it at an ange back across your property.

PIR (passive infra-red detector)

All PIR sensors detect changes in infra-red radiation, in the form of heat emitted by a number of bodies including people, cars and to a lesser extent, dogs or other small animals. The bigger the body, the more infra-red radiation isemitted and the easier it is for a PIR sensor to detect.

If you imagine the images shown on television of a Police Helicopter following a suspect in the pitch black using night vision technology or a Soldier looking through night vision binoclulars in the middle of the night, this is exactly how the PIR is working.
